Searching Tips
-
The VDC search box (in the homepage and on the top left of all VDC pages) searches for studies in your VDC
and any other VDC member that your VDC is connected to.
- It does not search for pages in the VDC, only studies. For a fast view of VDC pages go to Site Map.
- When you enter two or more terms in the search box, it will search for studies that contain
all the terms you've entered. (that is, adds an AND to the query by default)
- The search box performs a search for ANY study metadata field, such as the study title, author, id,
abstract, keywords (in fact, any field offered in the study description of a study metdadata).
- If you want to search for an exact phrase (the terms in the order you entered them), add quotes in the beginning and end of
your terms. For example,
"World Data" will search for a study that contains exactly the phrase "World Data", but not "World Political Data" or "Data from the World".
-
If you want to search for either term, you can simply enter: world OR data
- Using AND between the two terms, will search for studies that contain both terms in their metadata. However, as noted above,
this is the default behavior, so you don't need to write AND between the terms.
- Note that and (lower case) is considered a regular search term. Thats is,
if you enter: world and data, it will search for studies that have "world", "and" and "data" in their metadata.
-
To search for one or more specific metadata field(s), such as title or author, you can either go to Advanced Search or enter the following query in
the search box: title="World Data" or title="World" AND author="Joe".
